Pre Wedding Session Scotland: what to expect

Why You Should Book a Pre Wedding Session in Aberdeenshire

If you are planning your wedding in Scotland and wondering whether to book a pre wedding shoot, you are definitely not alone. It is something so many couples consider, but are not always sure if they really need.

The truth is it is one of the best things you can do before your wedding day.

As a wedding photographer based in Aberdeenshire, I see first hand how much of a difference it makes to both your experience and your photos.

What is a Pre Wedding Shoot

A pre wedding shoot, sometimes called an engagement session, is a relaxed photo session before your big day.

There is no timeline pressure, no guests waiting, and no rush. It is just the two of you, spending time together, getting comfortable in front of the camera, and enjoying the experience.

Why Pre Wedding Shoots Are So Important

It is easy to think this is just about getting a few extra photos, but it is so much more than that.

A pre wedding session helps you feel relaxed and confident. It allows us to get to know each other properly and gives you a real understanding of how I work.

By the time your wedding day arrives, you already know what to expect. You feel more at ease, more natural, and far less aware of the camera.

This is when the best photographs happen. Nothing feels forced and everything flows naturally.

Who Should Book a Pre Wedding Shoot

The simple answer is everyone.

But especially if you feel a little unsure about being in front of the camera.

Many of my couples tell me they feel awkward or shy before their shoot. It is completely normal. These sessions are designed to help you relax and enjoy the process.

If you want to feel confident, natural and comfortable on your wedding day, this is for you.

When to Book Your Pre Wedding Session in Scotland

I usually recommend weekday evenings between May and September.

This time of year gives us the most beautiful natural light and a much more relaxed atmosphere. Evenings in particular offer soft, warm tones that are perfect for romantic and natural photographs.

Planning your session during this time will give you the best possible results.

The Best Locations for a Pre Wedding Shoot in Aberdeenshire

Your location should feel personal to you.

Some of my favourite options include beaches, parks, woodland areas and castles across Aberdeenshire and Scotland.

You might choose somewhere you walk regularly or a place that has meaning in your relationship.

I am always happy to travel within reason. As long as the location is accessible, we can create something beautiful there.

What to Wear for Your Pre Wedding Shoot

Keeping your outfits simple works best.

Neutral tones, soft colours and minimal patterns always photograph beautifully. The most important thing is that you feel comfortable and like yourselves.

Many couples choose to plan their session around hair and makeup trials, which works perfectly and helps you visualise how everything will come together on your wedding day.

Make It a Date

One of my favourite things couples do is turn their pre wedding shoot into a full experience.

Start with your session, then head out for dinner or drinks afterwards. It takes away any pressure and makes the whole thing feel relaxed, fun and memorable.

Can You Include Dogs or Family

Yes, absolutely.

Dogs are always welcome. They are part of the family and if they are not going to be part of your wedding day, this is the perfect way to include them.

Children are also very welcome. I usually recommend they join at the beginning or the end of the session, or that someone is available to take them for a short time so we can also focus on just the two of you.

Already Booked In

If you are already booked in for your pre wedding shoot, keep an eye out for your confirmation email which includes all the details you need.

If you have not received it, please get in touch and I will resend it for you.
